PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our folks appreciate the water hyacinth that thrives in our rivers. Mothers point outwardly to their children this water lettuce (water lilies) as they walk beside the river bank.   Children see first this plant than the boats and other aquatic and marine life. Everyone is familiar to this popular water garden plant because of its beauty and its interesting floating vegetation.

Do we really have to be fascinated and be pleased to this plant? Doot sa Salog, Buhay kan Gabos gives you a comprehensive story of the disadvantages of the presence of water hyacinth (as water pollutant) in the rivers, the detriments caused to people’s economy and the environment. Towards the end of the story, it introduces proper technology and management so that problems can be converted into useful resources. It publishes approaches in turning the water hyacinth into worthy resources and meaningful employment particularly for women.

This entry falls under Environment and Disaster Preparedness, specifically under the topic, pollution and waste management. This is aimed at informing the readers to the great potential of water hyacinth as a contributor in water pollution and at deepening the awareness between the readers and the environment regarding waste management.
