METHODOLOGY

Coming up with a topic to suit the interest of the pupils had been the most difficult task in building the research team. Until typhoon Pedring hit Bikol Region.  A group of pupils were discussing the cause of the flash flood in the different localities of Bikol Region like Nabua, Albay, Legaspi City, some areas in Camarines Sur and some parts of Naga City. In their discussion, they mentioned the water hyacinth as one of the contributors in the flooding. The idea rang in an instant.  They were abreast on the topic water hyacinth as water pollutant and the harms that this plant gave to the lives of the people.

A meeting and selection of members were set to start off the research.  After the completion of the members, they brainstormed on how the research shall be done. A day-to-day schedule was formulated to hit the deadline.

The team started to gather data.  They set appointments with Ms. Nancy Talay of Milaor Camarines who manufactured bags, shoes, sandals made from water hyacinth and with Hon. Magno T. Reyes, Barangay Captain of Mabolo, Naga City who fabricated green charcoals.  They also interviewed residents who used green charcoal in cooking and ironing clothes.  Furthermore, they surf the net, read books, magazines, articles and other reading materials related to the topic to further deepen the account.

After the topic was substantiated, the team sat down to write the narrative.  Each one was confidently doing his respective tasks – editing, writing, and uploading. The team laboriously worked on the research until it was completely done.

The research was a collaborative effort of the team-researchers, the school and the community as well.
