RECOMMENDATION

Review of the various studies and results concerning water hyacinth all agree that it is indeed a water pollutant that needs to be given emphasis.  Here is a list of the recommendations that have emanated from this research, taking into consideration identified gaps. The suggestions are practical and tangible actions, in an effort to reduce pollution and deal with its waste.

1.      Public awareness campaign against water hyacinth should intensify to educate the people about the problems caused by the weed and identification of the plant throughout the locality. This could take place at universities, local government offices, and trading station. Make infomercial and advertisement to be aired over radio and television.

2.     There is a need for strengthening collaboration efforts in the management and control of water hyacinths among residents, organizations, local government, the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

3.     The government should put in place mechanism to stop or limit the spread of water hyacinth.

4.     Bring up supplementary centers of weevils for faster water hyacinth reduction.

5.     Investigate rivers should be carried out to accurately determine the extent of water hyacinth distribution.
